Undercover Learning Area started

Work has begun on the new undercover learning area. The biggest part of this job is digging 14, 5 metre deep holes for the roof supports.

Scoffolding removed to unveil new building

The scaffolding has been removed from the new Upper Primary classrooms, so you can now begin to imagine what the final product will look like. These new rooms, and the surrounding area - across the the library and down to the amphitheatre will be magnificent.

Roof on the new primary buildings

The roof is now on the new primary classroom building and the Primary Resource Centre is starting to take shape.

You can begin to see how the outlook over the newly completed amphitheatre area will be changed once the buildings are completed.

The new facilities will be very exciting for our students as they start the new school year.

The Primary Classrooms are on track for finishing in December. Much of the scaffolding has been removed between the floors and so is starting to look like a real building. We can see the airconditioning ducts being installed at the moment.

The Primary Learning Resource Centre is underway. The ground work has been completed and the slab is being poured. Because of the delays in approval, we are looking at a mib February 2010 completion date at this stage.

Thursday, 17 September 2009

It's almost school holidays and we have some good news. We have approval to begin the building of our new Primary Learning Resource Centre. This will begin over the holidays, so when we come back, the construction site should be set up and the preliminary work well underway.

The Primary classrooms continue to be on track. After the ground floor slab was poured last week, scaffolding came in this week. Things will look very different in 2 weeks when we return from holidays.

Pouring the Slab

We poured the concrete for the ground floor slab of the new primary classrooms today. In a few days time, we'll really start to see some progress above ground as the scaffolding starts going up.

First signs of progress above ground

The foundations of the new primary classrooms are well underway.

Lower Primary Resource Centre

We seem to be getting closer to starting on the Lower Primary Resource Centre. We expect approval in the next couple of weeks (please pray that it is so. It will be cheaper and less disruptive to build the Resource Centre at the same time as the primary classrooms.)

Also, we have approval to build the undercover outdoor learning area beside the auditorium. The build time for this is about 6 weeks, so we plan to start the day after students finish at the end of Term 4. All going well, this will allow the project to be completed before the start of the 2010 school year - and without disruption to classes.

Construction underway

The drainage, plumbing and other underground work is complete. Now work has started above ground. You can see the ground level is significantly higher than the old building that was here. This is to allow the new building to eventually meet up with the Greening Centre building in the High School.

What will the new Primary Classrooms look like?

A very good question. The wonders of modern graphics software allows us to see 3D concept drawings in the planning stage. In this new building there will be 6 class rooms on the top floor and 4 on the ground.
The views you have here are 1: from the library / covered walkway 2: looking from the volleyball courts 3: from High School Admin
The building will back on to the top of the amphitheatre and the gap in the ground floor will allow access to the amphitheatre area. All the surrounds will be landscaped when construction is completed.

The old is cleared to make way for the new

The old classrooms plus canteen and uniform shop have all been cleared away leaving a blank site - ready to prepare for construction.
New concrete pathways around the site are being laid. So all will be ready for school to return on Monday.

New Primary School Buildings

Welcome to our building program blog. There is a lot planned for the 2nd half of 2009, and we plan to use this blog to keep you updated. In the pipeline we have our new Upper Primary Classrooms, our new library in Lower Primary, upgrading the amphitheatre, plus many other smaller projects - many of which were completed over the holidays. Please subscribe to this blog, or return regularly to see the latest.

Regards
Stephen Wruck

4 primary classrooms plus the canteen and uniform shop were demolished this week to make way for our new 2 story primary building.

The new building will have 10 new classrooms - 6 upstairs and 4 downstairs and will be open for the start of first term 2010.

It's an exciting time but a little sad as well.
The rooms that have been knocked down were the original classrooms when the College first started - built with love by our parents. They will be replaced with a state of the art, 21st century school building.

To keep up with the progress, please keep a watch on this blog.
